On 13th March, 1915, the day on which Richard Lambert was killed, the 2nd Cornwall Light Infantry battalion of 82 Brigade, 27th Division, moved into front line at St. Eloi in the southern part of the Ypres salient. The battalion diary makes no mention of any casualties on this day but there were many, nearly 150, on the next day when their trenches came under heavy attack in the form of a concentrated artillery bombardment, the blowing of mines as well as an infantry assault. It may have been that he was killed during this but that his date of death was incorrectly recorded. |
